In the medieval village of Loutra, many elements mainly from the Venetian times retain. There are picturesque lanes, inner courts, arches, a fountain with an Arabic epigraph etc.
Villa Athena lies about in the village center, and 4 kms from the beach.
Below the village on the coast there are the hotel suburbs of  Platanias and Adelianos Campos which provide beaches, watersport facilities, supermarkets, shops and restaurants.

Iraklion airport is 81 kms away, Hania airport 80 kms.
With respect to the winding character of the motor highway, transfer times from and to the airports must not be underestimated.
